The National Marine Park is the first marine park of Greece and the largest protected marine area in Europe (approximately 2,220 square kilometers). Besides the sea area, the park includes the island of Alonissos, 6 smaller islands (Peristera, Kira Panagia, Psathoura, Piperi, Skatzoura and Gioura) and 22 uninhabited islets and rocky outcrops. The Park is the habitat of the protected species of the Mediterranean seal (Monachus Monachus).
