The Castle of Chora is at an altitude of 255 m. above sea level. The total area of the medieval settlement is 30,500 sq.m. and it is enclosed within strong walls. The houses are built near each other. Within the castle there are also ten churches in good condition with frescoes of post-Byzantine times. The Castle was built during the Middle Byzantine period. During the Knights Hospitaller perior it was widened and was rebuilt in the late 15th century. The Castle was habitable during the Ottoman domination till the early 18th century, when it was abandoned and the population moved to the foot of the hill where they founded a new settlement.
To reach the area you need to follow a path with 235 steps. The path starts from Chora and leads to the Castle gate. The entrance to the site is free.
