The village is surrounded by hundreds of oak trees that give the feeling of a past era, the one of gods and goblins.
According to Greek mythology, the nymphs were feminine figures of divine origin, young in age, living in the wilderness, wandering around the mountains, accompanying goddess Artemis and playing with her.
The Nymphs were generally considered to be something between gods and mortals and not actual goddesses. They were not immortal, but lived too long and ate ambrosia. They were related to great gods, while Hermes was deemed to be the son Nymph Maia. Generally, they were believed to be the daughters of Zeus.
The nymphs turned out to be of three kinds:
Naiades or nymphs of rivers, springs and creeks, who are the most widely known. Oreades, who used to live on the mountains, where there are springs. Dryades who used to live in the forests.
The Dryades were wandering nymphs of oak trees, under which they lived. Their name comes from the word ‘’drys’’, meaning oak. According to mythology, Dryades nymphs enjoyed the rain and when the oak trees had no leaves or fruit, they would cry. People used to believe that anyone who protected and cared for the oak tree, committed a sacred act and had the blessing of the Nymphs. On the contrary, when a tree was cut or destroyed, the tree nymph would go to another one and then punishes the person responsible for the destruction.
